SUSPENSION/ DAMPENER/ SHOCK ABSORBER

| Motorcycle with mono shock |
Shock absorbers are being one of the vital equipment in any vehicle responsible for stability and control. When we see the wheels of a bikes they are connected to chassis through suspension. It may be mono suspension or dual suspension. Generally spring loaded suspension has following parts
1. Spring
2. Body or Tubes
3. Piston
4. Valves and
5. Damping Oil.
The job of the spring is to bounce back from the uneven surface rather than soaking the impact.
Piston along with the Oil is responsible for the damping action. So, when the vehicle hits a bump, the piston inside the damper moves within the tube filled with damping oil along with multi holes Valves. The oil is then dissipates from the holes of the valve and hence allowed limited resistance to the movement of piston thereby performing efficient damping.

7,5 and 2 Stepped suspension
Stepped suspension in motorcycle bike
It is a modern suspension system which provides the notches to adjust the height of the suspension system. Generally stepped suspension is produced with rear suspension by almost al motorcycle manufacturers. The stepped suspension system can be adjusted for your comfort for various load . If your bike carries single or lighter passenger ei you the stepped suspension may be adjusted to its lowest groove. This will lower the height and spring tension of suspension and give a comfort ride.
If rider's weight is heavier or with pillon rider adjust the stepped suspension to its lowest groove. It increases the height and spring tension of suspension.
It has following parts
Stepped tube with groove
Stepped socket with notches
Required tools for adjustment
Monkey pliers or blunt screwdriver and light hammer
Rotate socket with help of money pliers or tapping with tapper and light hammer and adjust as your comfort and weight of passenger.
if you are single Rider then keep it the minimum.
If your bike carrying always double passengers you have to adjust the height of the suspension system to its maximum.
Common bikes problems and solutions
It is nothing but two springs of different dimension are used in rear
suspension system.
Generally one spring is fitted in suspension. The SNS suspension system has two co-axial (outer one and inner one with same axis) springs. The springs are intelligent enough to differentiate between large and small shocks.

SNS (spring in spring suspension) :
It is nothing but two springs of different dimension are used in rear
suspension system.
Generally one spring is fitted in suspension. The SNS suspension system has two co-axial (outer one and inner one with same axis) springs. The springs are intelligent enough to differentiate between large and small shocks.
Mono shock Suspension
Dual Shocks suspension
Dual means two, this is simple suspension with two shocks. Generally there are two shocks in most of bikes.
Gas charged suspension

| Gas charged suspension Nitrox suspension |
Now a days every motorcycle either it has mono shocks or dual, both shocks fitted with a canister. The canister is filled with pressurized gas. The suspension with pressurized canister is called gas charged or nitric suspension. Generally the rear suspension is fitted with nitrox canister.
We use nitrogen because it helps reduce aeration and cavitation during damper operation. ... Because it also has a greater density than just air, that means a damper can hold its pressurized charge for a longer period of time.
nitrogen is called inert gas It's safe to use for shock absorbers.
The gas filled shock-ups can be easily differentiated by ‘Canister’ attached to the conventional spring loaded shock absorber. It is this Canister which holds the gas inside, it is mostly Nitrogen gas used in these cans and that is the reason why it is also known as ‘Nitrox’ dampers.
It is a better technology giving more comfort to riders.

BENEFITS OF GOOD SUSPENSION
• It gives Comfort to riders
• Increasing the tyres mileage
• Increasing vehicles life
• Minimises maintenance cost
• Reducing vibration and enhancing chassis life
Finally it gives economy ride.
